Planning a reverse camera and display

Assess position, angle, night view, guidelines, trigger, screen, wiring, sealing, and limitations.

A reverse camera is an aid, not a substitute for checking around the vehicle. Angle and position should fit the vehicle and the area that needs to be seen.

Questions before deciding

Bring vehicle context and usage patterns. Good answers narrow the options and identify the inspection required.

  1. Required view, camera position, angle, lens, and night lighting.
  2. Target display, video format, resolution, reverse trigger, and display delay.
  3. Fixed or dynamic guidelines and calibration needs.
  4. Cable route, body penetrations, sealing, water, vibration, and service access.

Useful checks

Use these checks as a starting point for handover. Final scope still depends on the vehicle, product, and agreed work.

  • Test daylight, night, simulated rain, and several object distances.
  • Check orientation, guidelines, delay, flicker, and interference.
  • Protect holes and connectors from water.
  • Confirm parking sensors and other screen functions remain normal.
